CBR650R 2022 Denali Split Soundbomb Advice sought

Hey Everyone,
Has anyone fitted the Denali Soundbomb “compact” or I guess more likely the “split” version to a CBR650R. Mine’s a 2022 model and am wondering if there’s enough space behind the front fairings to do a tidy install. I’ll look to use Denali’s wiring loom for ease of install, but am wondering if I need any custom brackets and where to put the them. I heard the soundbomb mini but its just not quite enough to keep you safe IMHO….any advice would be very much appreciated, especially if you can include a photo…… thanks.

I got one I might get the horn in the same spot. But the compressor will be challenging. It needs to be up right. I might see if theres space when i do a pair valve delete. If you find a spot let us know!

I ended up just getting the mini sound bomb. For now. It's not burst your ear drums loud but it's better than OEM.

So, Ive bought the soundbomb split, and the wiring harness…… Ive spent the last week in and out of the garage, lots and lots of head scratching, but have finally come up with a design to fit it that I’m really pleased with. You’ll have to bear with me for another week as I’ve ordered a few bits and pieces on the internet, bolts, slotted metal bar and longer air hose, cable and connectors, but I did plumb in the harness today and temporarily attach the horn to just test everything and jeez was it load….. I will be honest, there was nowhere amongst the engine bay or fairings to do a neat job, so Ive broken the rules and am fitting the compressor horizontally using the threaded mounts for the pillion footrests. If you’ve not removed the footrests like me, I think you’ll still be able to fit the compressor but it’ll need to twist 90 degrees, but I can confirm once I fit mine. I’m leaving the original horn and wiring in place, just running an extension wire from the original horn connections to back under the pillion seat where the harness resides….. If I need to revert back to the original horn I can just unplug the SB and reattach to the OEM horn…. Once its all in I’ll post some photos……. only concern is that the replacement air hose is the right fit….. looks correct in the specs, but wont know until I can try it…..

FYI…. the acoustic unit is going down in the belly fairing beside the OEM horn if you were wondering

Awsome! I've 50 things hanging off my pillion pegs already and I take a pillion quite a bit 😑. But I'd love to see your solution!

If the compressor is exposed to elements I hope it will last.

Finally, enough bits to get started. For now Ive made a simple bracket to mount the compressor. Its unpainted as yet and only test mounted using the original bolts which held the passenger footrests. These will be changed for some M8 black dome head hex bolts, but it gives an idea of where this installation is heading…… just waiting on a replacement air hose as the one in the box is too short……… Will update when I have more to share

I've now completed the installation, and can say its "VERY LOUD". Everything I'd hoped for. So, during the week I took delivery of a few more bits to get this install done. As the original air hose was too short for my planned installation , I found the same spec host online and ordered 2metres. Outside diameter 10mm, inside diameter 6.5mm pneumatic pressure hose. Having decided to hang the compressor from the threaded lugs used for the passenger pillion pegs, I'd made a small bracket from a bar of Aluminium, bought online and picked up from my local "ScrewFix" store . The bar was 20mm wide and just 2mm thick, but plenty rigid for the job. Being aluminium it was easy to cut, drill and finish. Spray painted matt black with anti-corrosion paint, again from ScrewFix. Distance between the centre points of the two 8mm holes to secure the bracket was exactly 70mm. I bought a couple of black dome head M8 hex bolts to secure the bracket. I just added approx 30mm to extend the bracket towards the rear of the bike for securing the compressor, again with an 8mm hole. The Denali wiring loom made the job really easy, especially if like me you're not an auto electrician. All of the loom resides under the pillion seat location, looped up and cable tied. From there, 2 leads went to the battery, two popped out through a small existing gap to exactly next to where I was mounting the compressor. As for the two leads that should connect to the existing horn's connectors, I left all the original wiring in situ, and ran an extension lead from the loom connectors down to the where the original horn was connected. This cable followed the same route as the air hose from the compressor, the two cable tied together, along the right hand side of the fuel tank, around the back of the steering column and then diving down, cable tied to the frame so as to stay away from anything hot like the radiator and engine block. The Denali acoustic unit occupies the same location, fitted to the same bracket that the original horn used. Original horm removed to provide space. With the relay installed, all that was required was to replace the fairing. A bit tricky, but so long as you manage the bolts and plastic pins as you remove them, you shouldn't end up with anything left over (!!). So, yes I've ignore the Denali advice and placed my unit horizontally (time will tell on that one), and admittedly there is not really many options for where else you could fit the compressor, and the leads on the wiring loom do limit its use unless you extend the wires like I have, but hopefully this will provide an option for anyone wondering how to take on the same task.

awesome thanks for the write up. good to hear the acoustic unit will fit at least. I may have to find another place for the compressor but if I get around to it ill update here as well.

Also you missed a trick not paiting the compressor gold and slapping an ohlins sticket on it :)
