Can't see a thread on this, apologies if I have missed an existing thread.
I currently have a set of Road 5's and a set of Road 6's on order, should be arriving Friday.
I am looking at a bit of a new Project hopefully this weekend, I am going to have a crack at changing my tyres myself. I have some Levers, with a built in Bead Breaker, some Rim protectors and some wheel weights on order. As well as this Balancer frame.
Hoping it will go smoothly, but if anyone has any advice on this job, please feel free to weigh in with your opinions or advice.
I love to work on the Bike so I figured as long as I am careful its worth having a go and if I fail, I have the wheels off to take to the local garage and had it over to them.
Wish me Luck!Tyres.jpg

Careful is the big thing, especially around the brake disks so use the new tires to keep the wheels off the ground and use rim protectors to keep the wheel scratching to a minumum. Once you have the old tire off the bead/rim, use it to protect the wheel from the ground for the new tire.

My other tip is to put the new tires in the sun for a while before you start working so they are good and hot making them pliable. Take your time, you'll be fine.

I did this once... It's a tough job on the ground, but the hardest part for me was seating the bead on the new tires. My small compressor just wasn't up to the task. My advice is to make sure you remove the valve stem core (common sense I think), and to have an air chuck that also has the core removed so its blowing at the full potential of the compressor tank. Lastly make sure you've got a big tank and at least 150 - 175 psi to blast the new tires onto the bead.

I was missing both the proper tyre Lube and a decent Compressor. Removed and mounted the front tyre, it was a tough Job, but i got on OK, then came getting the Beads to Pop............
After many hours trying everything i could find on the internet I admitted defeat on the front wheel, and took both to a local shop this afternoon. I looked on filled with Jealousy and Shame as a 17 year old apprentice in the shop did both in about 20 minutes without breaking a sweat.
I did say to the Garage owner "You passed it to him just to make me feel worse didn't you?" He Smiled and gave me a Fiver off! ;-)
Lesson Learned, but i gave it a go!

On the Upside i now have a brand new set of Road 6's to have a proper blast on, once they are worn in ofc!

We had the exact same experience, but even worse for me was I spent years as a tire tech in my early years and still failed to realize just how much compressor I was going to need. At the shop everything seemed so easy... now I just happily hand over my $35. 😆

Hi Brian
When your rd 6.s
Are scrubbed in I'd like some feedback if possible

I'm currently running pirelli rosso 3
But will need a set of new boots soon and I'm considering 6.s

I've got a r5 front and r6 rear. Absolutely fantastic in wet or dry. Total confidence and they seem to last an age.

I haven't taken them on track, but on UK roads they out class the bike and my riding abilities. Never had a slide.

Ran Road 4, 5 and now 6s on my Triumph Sprint GT and 6s on my old Tracer GT. Absolutely brilliant tires, grip like mad in the dry, grip in the wet (the 4s were the absolute best wet weather tire ever) and wear very well, especially the 6s. I think I have around 4K or so miles 2 up on my 6s and they still look like new. It’s amazing how good of an all around tire they are.

I have just been out for my first run (only 37 Miles), so they are not scrubbed in properly yet, but I am happy to say i would recommend them without reservation. Everything the Road 5's were, with a surprisingly improved feel on the Front in particular, even without pushing them the Front tyre feels "Stiffer" by which i mean more supportive and better on the lean than the 5's and i thought the 5's were excellent!
Brammers @Brammers, I would be very interested to hear your thoughts when you upgrade to the Road 6 on the Front of yours, i was genuinely surprised by how much the front end feel on the lean is improved.
I am a happy Chappy and looking forward to many miles on these!
