Only really noticeable on idle and 1st gear, there's this super obnoxious ticking noise coming from my motorcycle. I tried to take a video (see above) to get close to where the noise is coming from. Someone told me it could be a valve sticking but wanted to come to this forum and see if the noise is normal. The bike only has ~1200 miles and it's had its first service done of course - recently tensioned the chain to spec as well. I posted it on Reddit and was told it could be normal operation from the PAIR valve - and that I should unplug it and see if it goes away. Can anyone confirm this noise is normal or what I should do to sort it out? It's just annoying, but I've noticed it starting roughly a month ago and it doesn't seem to affect the bike. Thank you!

Pair valves all day long.

Totally normal that bike.

Thanks! I keep seeing your name on every thread I browse on here, and I have to say I'm super grateful for all your tips for every mod I've done to my bike haha :)

You can reup your video again. My bike got ticking about 1 month ago and it disappeared after few days, and now it reappears, this repeats about 2-3 times, maybe not the pair valve like some people speak. If it reappears then I think it might have a problem with the oil in the engine. Some people using 10w40 oil also hear this sound and it disappears after changing the 10w30 oil. What engine oil do you use?

Hello.

You should use 10W30, JASMO MA/MA2. It´s what Honda recommends, and I think there is no need to change it.
I also can ear what I believe to be the reed valves ticking. I think the PAIR solenoid itself does not do this ticking noise, but I'm not 100% sure.
ASA I rev it a bit above the idle speed, the PAIR disables itself and the sound stops.

For anyone reading this thread in the future:
- 2023 CBR650R w/ Akrapovic full system
- My symptoms were a really annoying ticking noise up to around 4000-5000 RPMs; driving slow around the city would drive me crazy. After everything I read online, I decided it had to be the PAIR valve.
- I did a full PAIR valve delete using the SmartMoto block-off kit and physically removed the entire assembly. My ticking noise did not go away, but I was having pretty bad decel popping which was resolved by the removal of the PAIR valve assembly.
- The problem ended up being an improperly installed exhaust - Akra's included gaskets in their full system do not sit properly in the headers and will lead to an exhaust leak. If installing a full exhaust, use OEM Honda copper gaskets (Part number 18291-MN4-920).

Now my CBR sounds like it should and this ticking noise is no longer living in my head rent free :)
