Hi there my first post

Ive a problem with the abs on my 2015 cbr650f

The abs light flashes constantly whilst riding and never goes out, i checked both abs fuses which are fine, I have got the code using the SCS connecter, I believe my codes are 1-2 and 5-4

I have uploaded the video here

Could anyone help me with what my codes mean and what I should investigate next, thank you.

Have you recently removed and replaced your wheels? I’d start with inspecting the ABS rings and sensors on the front and rear wheels, making sure they are clean, free of debris and aligned properly. Also make sure the wiring is in good shape going to the sensors.

Hi there, yes I removed both front and rear abs sensors and they both looked in good condition as did the abs rings, I have not changed any wheels or tyres in the last couple of years. Thanks

Huh, ok. What kind of distance between the sensors and the ring? A couple mm or is it more than that?

Anything else we should know for troubleshooting? Like was something changed, tip over, adjusted, anything right before this happened?

I will check gap between sensor and ring later today, I would also like to mention that I can't seem to clear the fault, I tried following the service manual instructions however it would not clear the faults, this leads me to believe it may be a hard/permanent fault? What are your thoughts? Also any info on my codes 1-2 and 5-4? Thanks

You won’t be able to clear a code of that severity without a code reader. I have not been following what you all need for this bike to reset codes because it’s been years since I sold mine but usually it’s a OBD II reader along with an adaptor for the Honda. A good enough reader may also tell you what the codes mean. Search the forum, it’s been covered.

As far as the codes themselves, I also believe that may be in the service manual or Google them.

I’ll ask again: what lead up to these codes? Did they appear out of nowhere one day or did it happen after a tip over, service, severe weather, crash, modification? Did you have your ECU flushed? A lot of times that info helps point us into a direction.

Hi again, yes the bike did have a bit of a knock/crash, fell on left side, nothing was broken or severely damaged, after this the abs light began to flash, following the instructions in the service manual I did manage to reset the code the very first time, however after riding 30kmh the abs light came back and now will not erase, thanks

I have consulted the service manual for codes and its states the following.

1-2 front wheel speed sensor malfunction
-wheel speed sensor, pulser ring or related wiring
-Electromagnetic interference

5-4 power supply relay malfunction
-power supply relay (abs modulator)or related wires
-abs m fuse 30a

Well, so that’s why we ask about things leading up to codes, issues, etc. because I was going forward with the thought it was an out of the blue thing when it’s definitely something related to the tip over.

So with that know ledge, I’d start open on things that touched down relating to the front brake/abs sensor. Did the brake lever bend, or even break and get replaced? Have you checked to see if your brake light is on constantly? Again, I know you looked at the sensor and wiring, but have you double checked where the sensor sits in relation to the ABS sensor on that front sensor? I’m just trying to point you to things that may have been damaged in the tip over that would posdibly be out of whack.

I hate to say this but you’ll have to do the leg work on this one. Start at the brake lever, there’s a pin switch on it that activates the brake light that could be messed up, there’s the sensor wiring coming from the bike down to the wheel sensor, the wheel sensor itself including its mount and finally how it is in relation to the ABS ring. It’s got to be there somewhere, the left side is where the sensor is, I believe. The power supply malfunction code leads me to believe the system thinks it’s inoperable, so it’s failing the pre-check at startup.

I was replacing the front wheel on my Sprint shortly after I first got it and bumped the ABS sensor in its mount and knocked it out of place. I was surprised how easy that was to do. Your tip over may have done that.

Hi..just thought I'd update

Done some further investigation, jacked bike up and turned front wheel slowly, noticed that the gap between the abs ring and the abs sensor was not consistent. It was almost touching in places and a good 4mm in places..so I started to bend the abs ring in certain places to restore its shape and make the gap more regular...started bike up took for a good long run and hey Presto and light went out. Been riding a few hours with a few on off cycles and the abs light has not returned. so all sorted.

Hello.

Thanks for sharing. It´s always good to know this failure mode. 👍
