All 650Rs Oil leak

Yeah I'm going to take the bike back to the shop.. hopefully they can offer a fix and potentially replace the water pump. I love everything about the bike, but oil leaks occurring after a couple months of ownership is annoying.

Ask for a new pump replacement, there is no other fix. The oil leak is coming from inside the pump out of the bleed hole, no O-ring or other attempt will fix this problem.

Thought i would give an update on mine. Had the crankcase replaced and got it back on friday. Had a ride out on saturday and its still leaking also it now has a strange sound (grinding rattling noise) from what i think is the starter motor.

Just the bottom part. I'm taking it back in on Tuesday, its at the point where they can put a new engine in or give me a new bike now. The amount it will have cost them in parts and labour it would have probably worked out to be cheaper giving me a new one haha

Just took my bike to the shop and theyre ordering in a new water pump for me. It's backordered and should be in mid/end September. Hopefully this will fix everything, I really dont want to go through the process of replacing the crankcase lol..

Posters are demanding recall. A common defect and solution must be isolated to justify and get true action from Honda Japan headquarters, who actually call the shots AFA recall.
I'm probing as to exactly *why* Honda UK would authorize an extreme crankcase renewal in response to an apparent water pump leak(?) but receiving no specific, valid information.
Beyond an internal pump seal, precisely what was the further issue with the related crankcase section that justified a crankcase swap?....tantamount to a near full engine rebuild which requires a ton of labor and expensive crankcase set.

And after all that dealer effort and Honda UK expense and support (they are footing the bill, after all, yes?) its still leaking?

Presenting some specifics is required to allow intelligent discussion. The dealers *specific* motives for replacement are absent.
True manufacturing part defect? Factory installation error? Dealer error? Something else involved?

Unfortunately all that work with zero result is done on Jamie Franklin’s bike. If it where my bike I think I would explode with such a result. I would brought it to a different dealer, for a second opinion. I really feel for you Jamie! I can’t judge your dealer, I don’t know them, I just think it’s really a enormous step your dealer took to justify a complete crankcase replacement, and a big disappointment with the end result. I’m wondering how your dealer is going to solve/explain this with the Honda guys. Keep us in the loop

There is no content... a total lack of specifics as to the exact condition requiring cc replace, judgement and commenting is thus limited to total conjecture on our parts. Sure would like to know exactly what happened there.
So be it....signing off.

As this point invoking the sale of goods act would be the best choice. That would at least get a conversation started on return/replacement bike.

something must be wrong with the new version of the bike, there is too many reports of failure leaks and other problems with it to be bad luck, i know at least 4 people ho already replaced the engine, two of them had a tune so.... but two with completely stock bikes that just died after 10k or so, honda needs to do their homework and do it fast.

There does seem to be a bad batch of water pumps out there.

Not enough for a safety recall I expect though. At least its a warranty covered issue.

This issue is apparently not that common in Canada, at least. My service advisor contacted Honda Tech Line and said that they have not heard of issues with CB650R's leaking oil. However, they do not share database with Tech Line Europe from what I was told.
