Hello everyone

Does anybody know if the Quickshifter is compatible with this model CB650R (no ABS/no TC)?
Or is it only available for CB650RA (ABS/TC)?

Looking at the installation instructions it says CB650RA CBR650RA
So I was wondering if it would have been better going for the ABS model, if it is so then I'm really sad 😢

Thank you

I was thinking the same thing after I bought one for my CBR650R and it does not work. I do not have the ABS model. I am in the process of trying to figure out the problem, my model does have the plug for it but ECM does not see it.

I asked this before:

Have you taken it yo your dealer and had them activate it? It’s most likely not an ABS/non-ABS thing but a dealer needs to activate it thing.

That was my concern as well, so maybe miweber929 miweber929 is right and it needs to be activated by the dealership.
I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.

I've been playing around with clutchless up shifts after watching youtube on the subject. Whilst a quickshifter is better the clutchless upshift is cheaper and for a non racer, probably makes more sense.

Thanks for the advice,

I did take a look on youtube as well, not sure why but I don't feel comfortable on doing it, maybe I'm doing it wrong even though I do drive shifters go kart and clucthless shift is both up and down, completely different engine in this case since it's a 2 stroke. I'm not saying I'm kinda used to it, but on the bike feels completely different.

My dealer know nothing about flashing the ECU on the CBR650R and the factory service manual says nothing and American Honda doesn't have any info, says I must go back to dealer. I bought a jumper plug for the DLC connection to trouble shoot and I will ohm test all of the contacts per quick shifter instructions. That will narrow it down to either the ECU (ECM) or a particular wire on the harness. Picking up the tools today and will try to get to it over the weekend or so. When I know where the fault is I can take it to the dealer. Trust me, in the USA there is virtually no guidance on this product.

So I Just got off the phone with the dealer, and they said it is compatible with the non abs model. They have not said anything about enabling it of course, but they're gonna take the blame if it won't be compatible once installed LOL!
They shoot me a price of $125 for the installation which isn't bad at all.
Winter is coming so I won't be riding as much, planning to do it as soon as spring comes throwing in the first service as well.

Let me know if you're able to make it work by yourself, I might give it a try and save the installation cost (even though the first service I'm still willing to let them do it and won't change that much for me).
Good luck!!!

I do finally confirm that the OEM quickshifter does NOT work for the 2019 non ABS/TC model

Did follow the suggested troubleshooting, checked the signal with a Multimeter on QS connector and it's there, checked the signal to the ECU connector and it's there.

Instructions say to replace ECU. I'm wondering if it really needs to be enabled, if it is so why would it say to replace it?!

Really odd because the instructions clearly state both models. Bought straight from honda website and shipped from honda south georgia.

Got in touch with them and hopefully they could shed some light on this matter.

Any update on this? I'm curious about the quick-shifter myself, but only if it works on non-abs bikes.

It does not work
Honda wouldn’t cover anything just bc I’ve installed it myself
The dealer (not where I bought the bike) confirmed that it was installed correctly (I’m wondering how possibly could you do it wrong, it’s plug and play)
Not even sure to take it to my dealer and start a fight bc this is real BS, they have to prove that I damaged the ECU to deny warranty coverage.

It’s strange that the non abs bikes do have a Quick shifter connector but don’t support it 🤔 (Maybe they just used the same cable loom) The abs version is plug and play an doesn’t need any activation.

I would contact Honda North America. Most companies don't want their name tarnished, and will do whatever they can to make it right for the customer.

This accessory is marketed for both R and RA (ABS) models. If it doesn't work for both (nothing documented in the install instructions or in the accessory catalog), Honda needs to make it right.

I think a tactful email or phone call may solve the issue, or at least make them aware of the issue.

Funny thing is that I sent an email to Honda a while back, but never got back to me.

So today I Called Honda and the Dealer, here is the situation

Honda gave me the case# and said they will look into it by bringing the bike in, the dealer told me they tried to call me back and left a message (not true, bc I do not delete voicemails and nothing is there, also why call me only once if you know you fucked up in the first place) and they said to have got in touch with their area manager, spoke about my issue and found another case here in the US, apparently the QS does not work on non abs US models, and work in EU models.

I'm scheduled to bring the bike in on Sept 9th. Luckily the case was open back in June, warranty expires on Sept 19th, and the case date will cover for warranty.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Thank you

Over here it’s mandatory for motorcycles from 2016 and above 125cc to have ABS. Maybe there is a differents in ECU because of the additional electronics on board like traction control, ABS on the European models (correct me if I’m wrong). So maybe they left the QS function out of the non ABS models.

They definitely messed up something
Hopefully they’ll fix it and address all the other cases found within this particular model
I just hope they are not gonna screw me up bringing up some more BS

EDIT: sorry if I did not reply to the main question, ABS is not mandatory here in the US, on motorcycles, yet.

I’ve emailed Honda as well and have a case open. I’m quite disappointed I spent almost 300 dollars for a quickshifter that was supposed to be plug and play for our models. Hopefully they can fix it for us
