I have the DynoJet quickshifter fitted at the same time as the PCV. It seems to work well once you've told the PCV that it's fitted.
I've had a few false neutrals and a couple of times it has refused to shift up but nothing to really worry about.
It isn't as smooth or as usable as the one on my K1300s but I like it.

WAIT!

Before you buy the quickshifter make sure you got the new dual sensor shifter - NOW YOU CAN AUTO BLIP AND QUICKSHIFT (2 in 1) functionality!!!!!

Are you guys using your bikes on track days.......or is it for dragging away from traffic lights......or blipping for the exhaust note ?
Why do you need a quickshifter fitted to a 650f, basically is what I'm asking.

Have you rode with a quick shifter? I think it's just simpler and more enjoyable to ride with.

I'm curious (because reasons) on whether the dynojet qs unit can auto-blip for downshifting.

And... Can you auto blip a bike that has a cabled throttle?

The usefulness of an add on quick shifter is directly related to aggressiveness of your acceleration. If you’re plunking around, riding normally say to and from work, you’re better off using the clutch or clutchless shifting because the time a quickshifter cuts the ignition is static and is depending on quick and decisive movements of the shift lever. If you’re not doing that, it’s hard on the transmission gears.

On a fully “electrified” bike, something like an S1000RR or new R1, the systems can look at the entire process the bike is going through and adjust ignition cutout accordingly making it more useful and easier on the bike. For milliseconds per lap on a track, yeah, I get it. For an average street rider, as I stated earlier, it’s nothing but a talking point and you’re fooling yourself if you think otherwise. There is exactly zero reason to ride aggressively on a public road to the point you would use a quickshifter for anything more than status.

Brammers @Brammers an add on system can simply trigger a squirt of fuel from the injector for a short burst giving a “blip” of fuel, hence an auto blip. Not sure how many do it, but I’ve heard of the more expensive ones blipping.

And for the record: yes I’ve ridden a few bikes with an add on quick shifter and yes I’ve demoed a bike with a factory one. While they work the same they are light years apart in usefulness.

To each their own, however; it’s your money.

long story short......depends on how you ride and the roads you ride on.

P.S: British country roads are far more twistier and must I say much more fun, so are many parts of Europe.

They have developed a new dual sensor quick shifter, so they know what they are doing and should be well tested for the our setup.

Bragging rights.

lol I wonder how can a quickshifter be a brag ! Having a 650F standing along side the big boys I don't think anyone wants to hear what little mods we have. Unless you can wipe the floor on a track with this bike and prove to be the fastest with able 1000 riders then nothing about this bike is brag-gable :bookworm: maybe fuel economy ;)

I'll be fine bragging about not having my back hate me after riding 100 miles.
Sat down on a CBR1000RR the other day. It's just awful.

If you want a monster of a bike and comfort, get a proper sport tourer, whatever size of bike you prefer like Z1000SX, S1000F, S1000XR, H2SX, ZXR14000...some cost more but you get what you pay for. So seating position is not really a bragging right when there are other more powerful and well equipped bikes out there, and most of them are stupidly comfortable on long distance than the CBR650F.

if you compare costs yes buying the CBR650F is cheap, modifying it is not comparatively cheap in the grand scheme of things, and if you try to get the same goodies as the above mentioned list I have quoted you may rather get one of them than keep modifying the bike.

I cannot fault the CBR650F, it does what it says on the tin very well for it's price. but on tours your back and wrists do feel when the fatigue sets in, for weekend long runs it's perfect.

By tours I mean 1000+ miles, on a mixed road i.e some smooth, some pot holes and some just bumpy inclusive of a large amount of twisties and non motorway riding. I just completed one 1500 miles and can comment on this.

I must admit to never having done so on a road bike, don't see the point but maybe it's something I should try out. I know I hear plenty of them screaming away from the lights, not a stones throw from my house, on a weekly basis. It's a main A Road that's like an uphill drag track, starts off 2 lanes then into 1 and is obviously irresistible to the Quickshifter gang....It's not only bikes though, the Sportscars are just as bad and we suffer from loads of them down here...on diplomatic plates too. The Blip gang are also just as bad, they come screaming down the hill from Sunningdale, hit the 40 before the lights and blip blip blip blip......blah....then scream off to the next set of lights 1/2 mile away....still in the 40 zone...lol......SHIT I am getting old :)

I've just treated myself to the dynojet one, it fell into my lap from someone I work with who was selling his Yamaha and all the toys on it for a bargain price (£100). It's the newer QS 4-130 push and pull device which as the name suggests, works in both directions. You will see QS 4-114 suggested too for the 650's but this only works in the push direction. The newer 4-130 has a short harness from the QS to 2 clips, 1 for push and 1 for pull which you connect the other supplied cable to and then into the PCV. So will essentially work on any bike it is brought to which is great.

Anyone reading this who is considering one, get the 4-130 and don't spend £32 plus on 'shift rod adapters.' £32 plus because I spoke to Dynojet tech and they told me I need rods B & C which are £16.56 each. It's a rip off and they don't look particularly great either. It's only m6 thread with left hand one end & right the other end you need. This in 160mm length is £2.54, stainless steel and you get 2 which is perfect. Just a long delivery time which I don't mind.

Also, they're tiny! I'll put a photo up when I've done a decent fit.

Had this on a few weeks now and quite impressed with it.

Fitting: Easy. Shift rod just needs to be unthreaded and you'll need a max length160mm stainless steel rod with left and right hand thread on each end, each thread about 18mm long. This will position the QS at the bottom of the shift arm. I have connected mine to the top because of belly pan interference and wanted to hide the cable as much as I could so my setup is a bit different. Then plugs straight in to either 1 & 2 or 3 & 4 expansion ports in the PCV.

Parameters: I've attached the speed sensor to the PCV so my maps can be adjusted by gear (e.g. higher gears in one mode are leaner for economy) this means I have the option to adjust kill times per gear too but have just left it at the standard 250ms, as I'm really not looking to eek out a few hundred ms on the rare occasion I cycle through several gears rapidly.

Performance: It performs very well, 1st > 2nd it can be jerky if accelerating slowly and haven't mitigated this much by adjusting the kill time. Accelerating at roughly 50% throttle and up can make it better. 2nd > 3rd and up it's very smooth regardless of rate of acceleration.

Conclusion: Easy to fit and setup, performs very well in any gear but 1st > 2nd can cause jerkiness in some circumstances. Other observations are that it looks great and is a quality built item with a durable cable coming from the rubber grommet on the top, the grommet is reassuringly solid too. It also sounds very good to shift with such small hesitation between gears and is great fun when rolling on exiting a corner, settling the bike a lot more. For all the benefits I don't think it's worth its £175 asking price though which is the cheapest I could find, I'm lucky I was offered this by a colleague for £100 and that it is the modern push / pull variant as discussed above making it easily transferable to any bike so long as there is a PCV to connect to.

Hi guys,

Just got myself a used Dynojet PCV and Dynojet Quick Shifter. Did not know getting a QS comes with a "bragging right" too until I read this thread. Haha.. forgive me.. :) Here is what I think about the QS

Worth it? Yes It is fun, addictive and shifting sounds amazing too. My clutch shifting skill is sub standard (not smooth), so having a QS is good for me. Practicality you don't need a QS but for me this is my only bike in the coming years, so a QS will maximise my joy every time I take the bike out.

Mechanic guy advised me to shift only from 3rd to 4th gear onwards with 4,000 rpm above. I've tried 2nd to 3rd gear and it is still fine.

Cheers
