Hello colleagues
I have a 2020 cbr650 r and II want to change to aftermarket exhausts . To do this I should remove the radiator. However when I come to the top right hand side mount I cannot undo it . I can,t see a bolt and I know 5here is a tube right through . I am held up because this mounting is holding everything
I would be much obliged if anybody can tell me how to remove this radiator
Thank you very much

Hi and welcome.

First up, you don't need to remove the rad... Only "drop it".

Secondly... You have read the relevant sections of the service manual, haven't you?

Once you've studied it, you'll find it's a much easier process than you think.

Thank you
I scrutin8zed the service manual which says " remove radiator " and no more
Again the lambda sensor was not addressed . You are right . This is an easy job with lots of undoing things
Thank you for your help it was invaluable

Thanks for assisting .
The workshop manual says to replace the header manifold seals .
Should I do so ?
The bike is less than a year old 2k miles. In times of covid this may be difficult to get new seals
The nuts and bolt of the job is straight forward thanks. Even simple
. I hope I,m not speaking too soon

Ps for future reverence . How do you remove the radiator ? Please
The manual says " undo left hand side bolt bolt and slide the radiator to the right . The left hand mount prevents this
Thank you E Powell

Hi,

Let me try and help... you will need new manifold seals, they are single use crush gaskets and cannot be re-used. They are about £5 each and are readily available from eBay or Fowlers parts.

They are common Honda parts, use only OEM ones (link: https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts/view/18291-MN4-920) or eBay has loads available from sellers in Europe.

The procedure is not overly difficult when following the right steps.

Follow the procedure for exhaust removal on page 2-18 of the service manual (available in the resources section - be sure to get the 650R version).

Page 2-18 will direct you to do other things on other pages, namely 2-15 (drive sprocket cover removal), 8-7 (pull down [but NOT remove] the radiator and disconnect the O2 sensor (with picture).

You will note from the diagram mid-page that NEW exhaust gaskets are required for reassembly (see above).

Regarding the radiator itself, once the two bolts are removed, it moves sideways slightly, before coming free and moving down and away from the exhaust enough to undo the header nuts behind it.

If you wish, you can completely remove the radiator by following the second section on page 8-7. This is not required, but depending on your skill and size of hands may make things easier.

If you do full drain and remove the radiator be sure to refil using coolant that is silicate free (either Honda's own, Castol or another motorcycle coolant with no silcates in as recommended by your dealer). Your bike is new, so use only original Honda parts (or recommended parts by the dealer) to maintain your warranty.

Be thankful you have a CB and not a CBR, so there is a lot less fairings to remove!

Your help had been invaluable , thank you. However; having put everything back properly I find overheating. I can't understand why it is doing this. The rad . Is full as is the header tank.
I don't know how to get rid of airlock.
Can you help again please

If it were me, I would undo the radiator cap, and drain a small amount of coolant out (0.5l) then top it up to try and move the air bubbles.

I've never had to do this myself (it has always bled itself).

I find heating the engine up while on the stand and revving it a bit helps. Then check radiator levels again.

Also check the header tank and syphon hose are not on the wrong way around on the radiator. Easy mistake to make.

Hello again
All this to no avail
According to the manual there is a plug to bleed the air from the system .
Can you tell me please , where is it ?
Needless to say I overlooked this step and it may be the cause of my ills .
Mea Culpa
Sorry but greatful
Thank you all
