Hi Folks,

I am planning to replace the Chain and Sprockets on my 2015 CBR650F in the next few weeks, I have a new chain slider also.

I was wondering are there any other tasks I should look at while I'm there?

Front\Rear Wheel Bearings?
Rubber Dampers?

Cheers
Rob

How many miles/km on the bike?

Bearing and rubbers are an “as needed” replacement in my experience. I’d say take a good look at your brake rotor, pads and caliper to see if they need work.

Sorry forgot that part, its got 40k Kms,

I have a new set of brake pads to go in, just wondering more along the lines of the bearings\dampers, is there a replacement schedule on those?

The service manual doesn’t list a specific line that I can see for wheel bearings. And there are so many factors that go into whether they are shot or not (I’ve seen them last 100,000 miles and 1,000 miles depending on usage) but all the other bearings show “inspection” at the service intervals which is what I was thinking. So I’d say when you pull the wheels off inspect them, rotate the bearings by hand and if they feel loose, rough, you see corrosion, or there is play in them, replace.

Link to manual if you don’t have it already:

Thanks for that, I think I will just change the bearings and seals as they are pretty cheap.

Yeah already have the service manual thanks, that's why I was wondering as I couldn't find any mention of when to replace.

If you suspect the damper, replace it, keeps your shifting accurate and less noisy...

Hello.
Don't change the bearings if they are fine.
Quality OEM installed bearings can "run forever" if you don't pressure wash them closely. It can happen you jam or hit the new ones harder than you shound by accident and you end with new bearings that can fail sooner than expected.
Apply fresh grease behind the dust seals and you're fine.
I learned with english people: ain't broken, don't fix it. 😉

Goes for a lot of things, but on two wheels, I make zero compromises with suspension, bearings, wheels and tyres.
Feel for bearing play with the wheel still on, remove the wheel and check the bearing for smooth movement.
When in doubt, replace them (with proper tools). And with the damper, age is important, the stiffen over time rather than wear...

Thanks Guys, Yeah I think I will just inspect the Bearings once I get the wheel off.
From looking at the service manual the bearings seemed relatively straight forward to replace?

My cbr650f is 2015 reg and it would have been in the UK for a few years before I got it so there would be a bit of corrosion from the salted roads

With the wheel dampers is there anything you can check to see if they need to be replaced?

If you have a bearing puller, its very easy. If you don’t, it’s not. Might be a thing to have the shop do when the replace the tires, it’s usually pretty cheap labor wise.

Look for them to be torn, deep wear spots, flattened, cracked, chunks missing, things like that. With the low power these bikes put out I would guess they are in perfect shape and should last the life of the bike.
