CB650F Speedo stopped working

Needing help . I changed tyres and now my speedo and odometer have stopped working. I can’t see any obvious faults, hoping someone else has had this problem and knows what to look for .
Thanks.

Hi Brammers
As far as I remember I haven’t done any thing other than take the wheels off.
It may just be coincidental just thought the abs sensor might have had something to do with the speedo receiving a signal.

The sensor is on top of the gearbox, left hand side behind the gear change linkage. Unless you disturbed the cables or that sensor, it's likely coincidence.

Now, if you have an ABS warning light, that would be different.

What are the exact symptoms of the speedo not working - any flashing lights or error codes?

I would double check you have the front wheel orientation correct. There should be arrows on the wheel as well as on the tire if it was mounted correctly. Also be sure both your wheel spacers are in Josef and the wheel is centered in the forks.

I’d then check your ABS sensor wasn’t bumped, dislodged or covered with grease upon reassembly. On one side of the wheel there should be a second ring inside the brake rotor that has a series of holes in it. Sorry, I don’t have an ABS model but I think it’s on the right side. That ring passes by a sensor eye attached to your fork leg, you should see a wire running along side it that will lead to the sensor eye. Be sure that eye is in place correctly and not covered with dirt or grime as well.

If you and questions, post sone pics of that stuff. While I agree with Brammers @Brammers that the speedo sensor should be what controls the speedometer and odometer, the ABS unit may work in tandem with it. If the wheels are the only thing you touched, let’s start here.

Thanks, will check Speedo sensor and abs sensor later (wheel definitely fitted correctly, abs stator on same side as sensor)
There are no flashing lights the Speedo reads 0 and the odometer still sitting on same mileage even through I have done +- 10 miles since tyre change .

That sounds like the VS cable has become disconnected somewhere.

As the speedo will normally read speed without the front wheel rotating (e.g. when on a ABBA stand and in gear) we can safely ignore the front.

I had this - turned out to be a bit of water in the speed sensor connection - disconnected it and dried it out with compressed air and all good since then :)

I've got the same issue but unable to resolve it from the advice above. There are 2 cables near the selector. Can anyone confirm which one is the speedo signal please? Yellow or green?
