When I was looking for a first bike, the 650F was honestly a front runner. The instruments I could deal with, but I found the headlight atrocious. that was the largest factor for me. So I said, "if Honda were to redesign this to something a bit more slick, I'll buy it." Lo and behold, they did and I loved it.

And then I bought a CB650R instead lol
Purely for ergonomic reasons, since it's primarily a commuter bike and cutting through traffic is easier.

Headlight wasn’t great but it never bothered me. It worked, in the end that’s what I cared about, same with the gauges.

I’m not a huge fan of the R headlights; in my mind it works on the 1000RR but not as much on the 650. Different strokes, however.

The first winter snow came a little more than a week ago, with three different storm fronts pushing through and dropping a few inches each time. The nice thing about Colorado, though, is that the sun comes out and the temps climb after every snow, so it's just a matter of time before the streets are safe enough to venture back out on the bike. Today was sunny and well into the 50's (14 C), so I finally got out to scratch the itch for riding. The main roads were all fine with most of the salt and sand all cleared to the gutters. Traffic was very light with most folks indoors watching the Broncos football game, and it was wonderful. Riding a motorcycle on a nice day is just so cathartic and good for the soul.

Coming back home through my neighborhood, though, I had to traverse a small patch of persistent ice pack. I knew it would be there when I came back, but figured it had finally melted down to only 15-20, and I could handle it. Keeping the bike as straight as an arrow, I crossed the patch at only 15mph with light, consistent throttle in 2nd gear. The bike slightly tracked side to side on it's own as I crossed, and then I was on the dry asphalt again with no issues. I remember reading in several books how motorcycles don't actually want to travel straight, and naturally try to oscillate side to side because of their dynamics and tire contact patch differential, and it seems that effect is very obvious on the ice. I was so curious about it, I went back and crossed it again, really focusing on keeping the bike straight. And sure enough, it wagged side to side. It's not a confident feeling.

So a great ride ends with a bit of a learning/science experiment. I guess you never know just what you'll experience when you take off for a motorycle ride, and that is surely one of the best parts of owning one.

i have changed my 47cm long Akra carbon exhaust to my friend shorty akra and ride to work, about 27km. Feel that can touch red line quicker but drop rpm is quick too. Not smoth as mine in busy road at low rpm. Get mine back when i'm back from work :))

Don't know about that theory ,wasn't it just the fact you were riding on ice ! It just isn't safe to ride on ice ( unless you have spiked tyres !)

Went out for a ride yesterday to test the new Oxford heated premium sports grips. They get quite warm at just 40/50%. Got caught in the rain and got the bike all mucked up again after I had cleaned it. I don't mind riding in the rain that much as long as it isn't too cold but the bike always gets so dirty and cleaning it is a pain. Any tips on cleaning ?

The red stickers??? Hell no lol looks like a children's toy with all those stickers, never been a fan of stickers on a bike
You have already removed those red stripe things haven't you ? On second thoughts yes ,it does have a cleaner look without them.

INSANE STORY AND WARNING TO ALL K AN N 204 USERS

So it all started 3 days ago, I was about to go for a ride to pick up some groceries, I put the bike in neutral and let it idle for a couple minutes as I usally do. after it was warm enough I jumped on and went on my way and noticed that it almost felt like the bike gained 100kgs. It also had the same feel as if there was no tire pressure and it was very strange. I then thought it was all in my head since the bike was idling fine and felt fine at times and maybe I just got used to the power or something "big mistake" so I left it at that for the day. The next day I was at a red light and next to me was a cbr500. as soon as the light turned green I gunned it and my god he smoked me? I had no idea what was wrong? it felt fine giving it gas and smooth ect but how could a 500 beat me? so I went to check tire pressure and sure enough it was low on the front tire "30 psi" so i put it at the required 36 and went on my way and to a defgree it did feel a bit better but i just kept telling myself maybe i got used to the power and was just shifting wrong and I havent slept
great either "another big mistake". okay so now the 3rd day... I start ridng to a family friends house when i notice the smell of oil "im about 90% there when i notice this so i finish the ride. After I get there I get off the bike and give it a good inspection and notice a bit of oil around the oil filter "k and n 204". I never ever tighten my filter to much and always lube them when i put them on and infact I only used my hands when installing this filter not a wrench so i thought maybe it was just leaking because I only had it hand tight so i grab a wrench and tighten it slightly and wipe everything down thinking all of the problems have been sorted. so after being with a friend i jump back on the bike and go to turn it on and it looses all power as soon as i hit the ignition button so i thought maybe it was a problem with the new lithion battery? so i just turn off the key and turn it on and its all working fine, so i hit the igntion switch once again and it turns on no issues. So I start my journey home on the highway... about 5 minutes away from home I look down and see my traction control light flash ever so slightly then go away.. I thought it was weird then a minute later the bike looses control and traction control kicks in and i can feel it adjusting torque and power as the bike is moving un-controlably on the highway " THANK GOD FOR TRACTION CONTROL" after about 15 secons of panick i get to a stop and turn the bike off and notice "MY REAR TIRE COVERED IN OIL" so i check my oil amount and see its in the low to medium range so i put the bike in neutral and turn it on and notice no faults, i look around the filter and notice its leaking again but this time at a lot greater pace basically spraying before I realized the nut on the filter is not welded correctly..so Now i have to push the bike back home which is a painful 40 minute walk.. I get home furious and contact the seller i got the filter from as its brand new ordered from amazon "rolan" and call honda themselves to see if they know anything on which they didnt. So I search google and instantly find a major statement realsed by K and N and here it is

"k & n a statement on its website, the company says: “K&N has discovered that in certain KN-204 oil filters manufactured between March 1, 2016 and September 30, 2016, oil can leak at the area where a nut (intended for use to remove the oil filter during routine oil changes) was welded to the bottom of the filter canister"

I was that close to death, my filter is destroyed, who knows if there is any engine damage, my oil is not only empty but all over my bike and tires and now i dont have a way to travel ..

WHAT DO I DO AND WHO DO I CONTACT TO GET THIS ALL SORTED AS I AM PISSED BEYOND BELIEF.

I have heard stories about oil filters with those nuts welded on the end to help with torquing up and undoing. My advice would be to go with a standard filter without one, the nut will add a bit of extra weight as well, probably why the 500R smoked ya!

I found out about the" 204 recall" a couple of years back when I had the 2016 CB500F.
Fortunately on the 500, the filter is on the front of the motor, and when it leaked it dripped down on the exhaust pipe.
So I smelled it immediately. (my leak was a split gasket)
K&N sent me new filters and I sent back the 2 that fell under the recall manufactured dates.
I recently got my CB650F, and looked up the K&N filter for it. 204-1
Wonder if there is any difference between the 204-1 and the 204.

I have used K&N filters for years on all the different bikes I have owned. This was the only time I ever had an issue.

Yes exactly have used easily over 50 k and n filters without issue and now something like this happens plus the filter on the cbr650r is literly on the bottom of the bike right infront of the rear tire which is a stupid design.. I am in talks with them as I would like new filters and oil..
