Hello I am a new member living in Costa Rica and this is my first post. I have ordered my new 2020 CB650R and I live in COSTA RICA. My question is....how do I know if the bike I am buying is restricted. Do all countries sell the restricted version. Do countries sell both version. Is restriction based on your license?
I've read here that the USA models are not restricted. Any idea of how to determine if my COSTA RICAN bike purchase will be a restricted version. Personally I will be very disappointed if my bike is required to be restricted.

Restriction is based on your age, and A2 license is between 19 and 24 years. But I'm not entirely sure to which countries applies.

Now if your bike is restricted, should be A2 and should be stated on either the registration or any documents that belong to the bike. The dealer should know better.
Also you might wanna check your local laws if A2 is even a thing over there. Call the DMV or similar.

Welcome!!! The 650 is a great bike, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

“Requiring” restriction is all up to your areas licensing restrictions, so there’s not much anyone can do about that. As far as if yours is restricted or not you’ll have to talk to your dealer or the Honda importer because I’ve not seen anyone else mention they are from Costa Rica on here so I’m not sure what they sell there. I only remember seeing Australia as importing the restricted version only and their restrictions seem to be not made to be removed unlike the A2 version say Europe gets. In fact I think they are referred to as LAMS vs. A2 versions but I’m just speculating at that.

Best thing i can suggest is for you to ask the people who know and not just us who are most likely guessing. That way you’re sure you get what you ordered.

That makes sense. Thank you both. I have messaged my salesman. But Costa Rica being a third world type of country (I love it here dont get me wrong) anything can be told to you without you knowing if its true. Very common here Also though I speak spanish we have a language barrier. However the best course of action is to inquire through my distributor here. Thanks again. Jeff

As usual, miweber929 is on the money:
LAMS is Australian and the only version you'll find there.
A2 is mainly for European (EU) countries but the full version is sold in the EU as well. A2 restriction can be removed to return to full power.
US does not have any restrictions so only full power version is available over there.
Restricted versions are available in other countries (asian market for sure) as well.

If I were you, I'd have a chat with someone who knows costa rican licensing laws and what kind of restrictions (if any) are in place there.
