I'd recommend a good study of the wiring diagram in the service manual (forum search: "service manual"). Get familiar with your surroundings first.

You should only need one connector of the correct size and if it's HM series it'll seal itself.

Fuse is labeled as optional with a rating of 7A

Thanks Brammers,

Can I use the existing housing by removing the rubber seals and just get the connectors or do I need a new housing

On a separate note, I'm looking into accessing the red 4 pin DLC socket under the seat using an OBD2 connector and attaching a Bluetooth OBD reader to the end of it.
Honda_ECU_Flasher_Adaptor_Cable-500x500.jpgLonelecBlueTooth_850x905-500x500.jpg

So I had this equipment for a few days and tried everything I could think of to get it to connect with the Bikes ECU through the red data link connector but failed. I couldn't get any information out of it through these means, admittedly quite a crude method given that it cost about £30. It fit perfectly, and the Bluetooth reader powered on and the phone did connect to it recognising the OBD readers make and model, but no information relating to the bike was retrieved, not even the make or model unfortunately. There is an MCS kit available but as nearly $600 professional diagnostic gear, defeating the point of being portable and displaying some visuals on a handset.

In hindsight I think I think I was out of my depth expecting this to work, perhaps because it just flat out refused to! But at least this method can be written off, it's a shame there is no standardised method of accessing Motorcycle ECU's such as the OBD2 port on cars. If anyone has contemplated this or tried it, do post your thoughts on it or findings.

Can totally confirm that the connector is behind the left hand fairing on the 2018 CB650F, 3 x allen bolts, 2 x velcro pads and one plastic plug (fitted into a rubber grommet), really simple. Just used the 19mm RAM HD mount in the centre fork mount, Tomtom sat nav fits perfectly.

Hey everyone. I bought the OEM 12v plug for CBR650R but can't the installation manual. Honda doesn't have it on their website probably because its a new model. Thought maybe if I will find the plug for it at the fron of the bike I would be able to find the spot where it should be mounted. Maybe it's similar to the 650F, don't know. Any ideas, please.

Cbr650f has it behind the headlight, cb650f has it behind the left fairing panel (by the radiator).

Good luck!

J
Thank you, now one more question... I had the dealer to install the heated grips for me, do you think they would use that plug or some other option? Don’t want to open all the fron of the bike for nothing.

What make of grips? If Honda it would use the plug.

There is another plug by the fuel tank hinge. You could try that one.

J
It is a Honda grips. I tried to trace the power cable from the grips and it seems to go somewhere besides the fuel tank. So I might be lucky if the dealer hooked them up there and the one behind the headlamp stayed unsued.
Thank you for the tip anyway.

I found the auxiliary power connector on my CBR650R on the left hand side in the gap between the fuel tank and the frame just in front of the knee pad.

Thanks, I will assume my grips will be connected there but will check anyway. Have you tried to install the 12V plug? if you have it. Wondering where it should be located using the bracket they provide.

Im super fustrated at this point as every post i go on it says go search on the forum... but there isnt a clear answer in 20 tabs i have open.

The accessory plug on the CB650R is there, i have a battery tender usb adapter. Does anyone know the name of the adapter i need for the CB650R accesory plug to (what i think is an SAE connector on the battery tender)

Something like this but im not convinced the end with the clear plastic will fit in the CB650R accestory port.

Essentially

Update: spikezx14 spikezx14 made this? I just need part of it, what am i googling haha

SOLUTION FOR ALL CB650R WITH ACCESSORY PORT BELOW

... its SAE > 090 Female Receptacle Terminal > Sumitomo MT 090 Connector and then we can plug in the battery tender which uses a SAE. Makes it easy to disconnect when not in use and factory fitted. I'm making a tutorial for this. I think traffic has me triggered blood is boiled lol. Images below.

Update: Amazon has this which is nice, can see if i can avoid the receptacle terminal with the one here.

corriebikes @corriebikes all you need to do it read this thread from page one.

I just checked and by page 4 I have descriptions, part numbers and 3 different ways of doing it, by page 5 (I think) even the cbr650r connection location is in here.

I have personally used the sub harness from this thread to make my own lead up. It works a treat.

Have a read, if you have any further questions... Just shout.

Yeah man i really just dont see it for the CB650R. This accessory cable is already hanging out the side of the bike. Anway ive ordered an SAE cable and a male & female end so will solder them together if not a receptile terminal and should be gold. Will ideally rewire it into the frame so its all hidden if it turns out its not draining battery...

Happy halloween.
Cheers

I praise all your efforts in wiring things up the correct way. Given my lack of experience with bikes I am more hesitant at pulling things apart that I might not get back together I've chosen to go with a piggy back fuse connector. Only downside is you won't be able to close the fuse cover.

I understand your frustrations but like Brammers @Brammers said, the info is there, it’s just farther back.

As far as your Amazon items, can you further explain? There is nothing but a heading that says solutions, a couple pictures, no links, and other than “Amazon bitches” doesn’t help anyone any further.

Are they the right plugs?
What are the links to them?
Do either really work?
Is it plug and play?
Do I still need to get the right matching input connector?

I appreciate the effort, just explain it a bit better if you can.

Again, I’m a bit confused with what you are saying, but are the above cables not a solution?

Btw, It won’t drain the battery if you are just hanging an SAE cable off the bike. Your issue comes in when you have a USB converter or other device that constantly draws power connected to a non-key activated power source. The accessory pigtail is keyed on and off with the ignition.

Only downside is you won't be able to close the fuse cover.

Those are nice, but I’d be very careful if the bike gets wet a lot or whike washing it if you can’t close the fuse box cover.

I never spray water under the seat, so that's not an issue for me.

Do you ride in the rain ever? I can’t remember exactly where the fuse box is under the seat, I just remember that the seat gap wasn’t all that great and I would occasionally get moisture underneath at times when the bike sat out in the rain.

If your good with it, however, it’s all good!!!

I'm a dry weather rider mostly on the motorbike but on the pushy I do a lot more.
