CBR650R
Hey all,
Just wanted to put this out there to see if anyone else has had a similar experience. I’ve had a Evotech Crash Protection Kit fitted to my 2023 CBR650R – bought directly from EP and professionally installed by Vertu Honda in Nottingham, so it's definitely been installed correctly.
The weird part: I’ve had a structural failure of one of the frame sliders without ever crashing. Yes, i have had to put the bike down slowly in the past, like we have all done at some point hence the scuff visible on the bobbin. The bike’s only used for normal road riding – no track days and definitely no stunts, and there's absolutely no significant damage anywhere else on the body to hint a "crash". Im the first owner of the bike and the fairings have never been changed. - The failure seems totally out of the blue.
These sliders are supposed to be high-end, with billet aluminium and tough polymer bobbins. EP advertises them as being engineered to protect during a crash, but mine’s come apart under what I'd call completely normal riding conditions and a little boo-boo. Nothing that should literally snap "aircraft grade aluminium".
I’ve already contacted EP directly with pictures and the reply i got was somewhat below any form of understanding or advice.
So…
Has anyone else experienced something like this?
Any engineers out there able to give an idea of the type of break this is? or cause?
It’s got me wondering whether this is just a one-off defect or a design flaw.
