Hi all, been thinking about replacing my sliders which are the single point mount kind since I've been reading here that there are instances where a simple slow speed tip over can crack the engine mount because of the single point of contact. Haven't seen those pics personally though, just read it here.

Anyway, I was looking at the sliders, and while they are mounted on the frame itself first (green arrows) the bolt goes through to the engine mount (yellow arrows) which is probably why the engine mount cracks upon impact since a single point of load is too much stress for the engine mount.

Anyhow, I saw these on aliexpress, although they are from china, the mounting is 2 points which hopefully will disperse enough of the energy in a little tip over so as to not crack the engine case.

Haven't seen other reputable brands carry the same 2 point mount sliders so I guess AliExpress it is for now. I'm trying to stay away from the engine cage which 3 mounts since it makes the bike look a bit bulky and it isn't an adventure bike anyway to be carrying something like that.

Anybody try these 2 point sliders yet? Cheers.

There are pictures here and open the Facebook groups, it’s not just a theory but a fact. Several members had thier bikes totaled after minor parking lot drops, though having said that, a few had also tipped over using them without issues. It’s a crap shoot if you’re willing to gamble.

Those types are fairly common and would be a better bet, however know they still use that “fragile” engine casting mount. It is something but……

Better choices if you want protection without bulk are R&G and GB engine case covers. They are plastic covers going over the engine side covers, you don’t hugely notice them.

My other suggestion is to price bodywork and engine covers in your country to see what value you are getting with buying protection. At one time in the US the clutch cover was $38, a stator cover was under $30 and bodywork was in the $80 range for a complete side panel so spending any more than that on covers and protection was basically moot. I don’t believe they are still that cheap but it’s something to consider.

Yes I believe the cracked engine mounts. Just haven't personally seen a pic and I've been trying to search for them.

The gb/rg racing covers seems to be a good idea since it is a naked the stator and clutch cover is what's going to hit the ground in a little tip over, I'm just trying to see if there's anything else better since those covers hide the bronze color and part of the appeal of the engine is that color (nitpicking here).

You do have a point on the covers if they're cheaper or basically around the same price of the gb/racing then covering them up would indeed be moot. Cheers

i have these, which look to be close to your original post. not sure about how price and/or quality compare, but as in most things, you tend to get what you pay for.
i wanted to have "something" in case of a low-speed tip over, not full protection. i like the minimal look of these, and not covering up any beautiful engine parts. they really go away visually.

Oh that's the original I suppose. The aliexpress and the knockoffs for sure. Do you mind posting a couple of pics of your bike? I'd like to see how they actually look like and not product photos which is all I can find on the web.

Hello.
My opinion is that the best sliders are the engine cases themselves.
You don´t need to invest in advance and in the case of hypothetical damage, replacing one is probably cheaper than “a reputable set” of aftermarket sliders. And the bike is much beautiful :)

Motorcyclists seem to have this preconceived idea that they have to have armours mounted on their bikes! Why?! Are you always so worried that someone might scratch your car doors? The probability of this happening is probably higher and more expensive to repair, however, motorists don't wrap the doors in bobble foil ;-) Relax and enjoy your bikes.
