It’s just fine.

As long as you are looking at a motorcycle specific oil, it will work great in the 650 engine and transmission.

To add... You should always use a new crush washer on the drain bolt.

If you can put the correct torque on the filter as well, even better.
Can you attach a torq wrench onto one of these mate ?

Is it worth buying the oil filter boss. number 13 on this diagram?

D @Drewster123 I'll answer both posts in one...

1) Yes, that's why it has a square hole in the top
2) part #13 is internal to the engine and is not removed with the filter during regular servicing, so "no" you shouldn't buy it unless you mangle your existing one

The torq in the service notes for the oil filter is 26NM . Im going to do it but it just seems allot to me. The exhuast nuts even require less torq than that. Im Paranoid of over tightening. But if that's what it says it will be ok. Did you torq yours J ?

26nm is nothing. I can apply more than that one handed.

It's fine, follow Honda's rules. They made the bike, they should know!

Also, not doing it up tight enough is bloody dangerous! Look at where the filter is. Now imagine that working loose at 70mph and dumping 3L of oil over your rear tyre.

Your bike, your life and your call.

Did they tell you to do it by hand? I learn that for cars and works there, (on the CB I actually over-torqued it by hand :p) but it all depends on your strength.
I torqued my first oil filter by hand until it stopped, on the second change I used the torque wrench and i could still tighten it with my hands a little more. So go with the wrench to get it to the right torque.

Yes they said do it by hand lol. I never listen to anyone from bike shops as from my experience they just talk trash

I picked up this tool, but haven't tried it out yet. It closes as it turns. I think it might need some rubber on the claws, not sure yet.
