The hoses are soft enough for the starter motor to squeeze by.
yes you’re correct in removing the two bolts but remember to disconnect the live lead to said starter motor otherwise you will have 5th of November again lol 😂.
when you’ve got it out it’s pretty straightforward to take apart and clean, while you’re there try testing the continuity between your earth brushes and live brushes. Make sure you clean inside the brush housing and slightly rough up the copper pad where the brushes touch. Hope this helps 👍

Thats ideal chap :)

Im going to order the brushes and springs and have a go as no garage seems interested.

Am I correct in thinking the live and earth brushes should have no continuity between them ?

I have also seen a video of someone testing between the segments of the motor etc but cant remeber what they called them - either way im going to give it a go though :)

Yes you are correct in what you’re say about the live and earth. I don’t understand why you think that you need new brushes tho as your bike isn’t that old. Technically your brushes should last the lifetime of your bike. Just take the starter motor apart and give everything a clean. The only thing that you will probably need is a piece of wood approx 12” long and about 3/4” thick to use as a drift as the body of the starter motor has an O ring seal, just tap on the body of starter motor to help it out and when you’re ready to put it back after testing n cleaning.

Im not sure if the brushes might be sticking etc and ideally I only want to take it apart once due to using it 6 days a week so if I do find something wrong I can sort it all in one hit hopefully !

You said in a previous message that you tapped the starter motor and it started so on that basis alone it’s your brushes that are probably sticking, shouldn’t take more than 1.5 hours from start to finish. Good luck buddy and safe riding 😎
